Educational institutions in Latin America are organizing various STEM and innovation initiatives. The Rally Latinoamericano de Innovación is scheduled for October 16 and 17, featuring a 28-hour continuous competition where multidisciplinary university teams address real-world social, environmental, and logistical challenges. In Argentina, the Universidad Nacional del Chaco Austral (UNCAUS) is hosting the event for the eighth year, while the Universidad Nacional de Entre Ríos (UNER) is facilitating registrations across multiple sites. During the 13th edition of the Rally in 2026, more than 3,000 university students in Nicaragua are participating across 65 venues. This specific national stage of the competition, which spans 12 countries, has recorded a 48% female participation rate, noted as being “significantly higher than the Latin American average of 23%”. Winners from the Nicaraguan stage will qualify for the broader Latin American competition to present proposals aimed at generating social and environmental benefits. In Concepción del Uruguay, the Technological Pole hosted the 2026 Rally, where 51 students from four universities competed in interdisciplinary teams. Driven by Argentina’s Federal Council of Engineering Deans (CONFESI) alongside academic organizations from Colombia and Mexico, the event included over 30 mentors. In the Innovation category, the team LOISIS won first prize for the project ‘Enjambre’, while the team LOINGNNOVADORES took first place in the Social Impact category with ‘Kit-A Barro’. The event was supported by institutions including the Universidad Tecnológica Nacional (UTN), the Universidad Autónoma de Entre Ríos (UADER), UNER, and the Universidad de Concepción del Uruguay (UCU). In a related effort to promote scientific engagement, the University of Sonora (Unison) in Mexico is preparing for its 2026 Scientific Childhood Rally and STEM Professions Expo on October 3. This event expects over 20,000 children to participate across several campuses, utilizing approximately 500 exhibition booths to demonstrate fields such as physics, medicine, and engineering.
