Golden State Warriors player Stephen Curry has disclosed a diagnosis of Keratoconus, a progressive eye condition involving an irregular corneal shape that results in blurred and distorted vision. Curry indicated that symptoms were present around 2018, but he had been compensating for the issues without realizing their cause. He noted that he was unaware of the severity until former Warriors general manager Bob Myers observed him squinting during a broadcast. Following an optometrist visit, Curry learned the condition is progressive and potentially irreversible if not managed. To stabilize his vision, he utilizes specialized scleral contact lenses. In addition to managing his health, Curry has committed his future to the Golden State Warriors by signing a two-year, $116 million contract extension. The agreement includes a player option for the 2028-29 season, which could extend his tenure with the franchise through his 20th NBA season. Now 38, Curry reportedly accepted a deal approximately $20 million below the maximum allowable salary to provide the Warriors with greater financial flexibility and salary-cap space for future roster improvements. During a recent media day event, Curry expressed his commitment to the team and the Bay Area community, stating, “This is home,” and noting his desire to conclude his career with the organization. Warriors General Manager Mike Dunleavy praised the move, stating there has never been a better face for a franchise both on and off the court. This extension comes as the team seeks to rebuild its roster around its veteran core while navigating NBA salary cap challenges. Despite recent knee issues that limited him to 43 games last season, Curry maintained a scoring average of 26.6 points per game. With this new agreement, Curry becomes the first player in NBA history to surpass $600 million in career earnings. Beyond basketball, Curry has expanded his commercial presence, including a reported 10-year, $400 million deal with the Chinese brand Li-Ning and a directorial debut scheduled for release on Netflix. He has also remained active in philanthropy through the Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation and recently launched a keratoconus awareness campaign in Oakland.
