In August 2026, Street League Skateboarding (SLS) held a series of events in Rio de Janeiro centered around the Maracanãzinho arena. Ahead of the main competition, the ~~"In~~ “In Your ~~City"~~ City” community event took place at Aterro do Flamengo, featuring professional skaters interacting with local amateurs and participating in cultural excursions to landmarks like Sugarloaf Mountain. Following these community engagements, the SLS staged the “Rio Takeover” at Maracanãzinho. The event marked the return of the SLS to Rio de Janeiro after four years and attracted over 7,000 spectators. Despite sustaining a right foot injury during a training session on 8 August, Brazilian skater Rayssa Leal competed in the women's event, securing first place with a score of 20.9. She narrowly defeated Japanese Olympic champion Momiji Nishiya ~~(20.7),~~ (20.7) by a margin of only 0.02 points, while Spain's Daniela Terol finished third. This victory marks Leal’s second trophy of the season, following her win in Sydney, Australia. In the men's competition, Canadian Cordano Russell claimed the title with a total score of 27.9, securing the victory in the final round with a 9.3 score. He overtook Brazil's Giovanni Vianna, who led until his final attempt but finished as runner-up with 26.9 following a fall. Brazilian skater Wallace Gabriel completed the podium in third place with 24.5. A week later, the “Hill Takeover” served as the tour’s third stop. Sponsored by Vivo, the second event included virtual-reality experiences and a “Trick of the Night” contest, with the competition streamed live across multiple platforms including YouTube and Globoplay. The SLS season is scheduled to continue with upcoming stages in Tempe, USA; Paris, France; and Tokyo, Japan, before concluding with the Super Crown in São Paulo, Brazil, in December.
