Student assaults in Vietnamese schools

Recent reports have detailed separate incidents of physical violence involving students at high schools in Vietnam.

In Nghe An province, three 10th-grade female students at Dinh Bat Tuy High School allegedly assaulted a classmate during a classroom performance practice on October 25. The victim was reportedly grabbed by the hair and kicked. The school principal stated the victim's health condition was not serious, and local police in Hung Nguyen Nam are investigating the matter, which reportedly stems from long-standing verbal conflicts.

In Ha Tinh province, a 10th-grade student at Nguyen Du College, identified as 15-year-old L. D. N., was hospitalized following an assault on October 29. An 18-year-old student, T. D. M. H., who was tasked with collecting mobile phones, allegedly used a plastic phone box to strike N. in the head and subsequently slapped the victim repeatedly in the left ear area. Medical examinations at Ha Tinh General Hospital confirmed the victim suffered a ruptured left eardrum.

The incident occurred during a mathematics class while a teacher was present. The teacher, B. T. T. D., reportedly saw the initial contact but believed the students were merely playing. Consequently, the school has suspended the mathematics teacher for 10 days to facilitate an investigation. Additionally, the school is investigating the homeroom teacher, N. T. Q. T., regarding the unauthorized release of classroom surveillance video on social media. The school administration has reported the matter to the Ha Tinh Provincial People's Committee, provincial police, and the Department of Education and Training. The families of the students involved have reportedly reached a private agreement to resolve the matter.
