Reports have emerged regarding separate incidents involving student deaths in Vietnam.
In late September, a 9th-grade student from a school in Ha Tinh died after falling from the fifth floor of a hotel in Hue during an experiential learning trip. The school leadership stated they “accept full responsibility for the loss” and are cooperating with authorities to investigate the cause of the fall.
In mid-October, authorities in Hai Phong reported two distinct fatalities. On October 15, a six-year-old first-grade student, N. T. M., died at An Duong Primary School. The accident occurred around 5:15 PM while the child was waiting for a relative to pick them up. The student reportedly fell from a stone bench and struck their head against the sharp edge of a stone flowerbed. Despite receiving first aid from teachers and emergency care at An Duong Medical Center and Duc Hai Phong Children's Hospital, the child passed away that evening. Police investigations suggest no signs of criminal activity. In response, the Hai Phong Department of Education and Training has been directed to review safety protocols, specifically regarding student supervision during dismissal and campus maintenance. Additionally, the Hai Phong Cyber Security Department has been addressing the spread of misinformation on social media regarding the accident.
A second incident involved a 16-year-old student from Maritime and Waterway College 1 who died following a physical altercation with peers. The conflict reportedly occurred between groups from the Kinh Mon Continuing Education Center and the Maritime and Waterway College. The victim, a grade 11 student, was transported to Viet Duc Hospital in Hanoi but succumbed to head injuries on October 15. Police have taken a student, born in 2010, into criminal custody for investigation.
