Subaru has introduced several updates regarding its vehicle lineup, focusing on transmission options and pricing adjustments for specific models. For the 2026 Subaru WRX, the manufacturer continues to offer a six-speed manual transmission as a standard feature on the Base, tS, and Series Yellow trims. In the United States, the entry-level base model has seen a price reduction of approximately $5,000 compared to the 2025 version, bringing its cost closer to $33,000. In the Japanese market, Subaru is preparing to introduce the heavy-duty TY85 manual transmission as a regular production option starting in November 2026. The revival of the TY85, which was previously used in the older WRX STI, was made possible by the discovery of an existing production line at a partner factory. This new transmission development included input from Super Taikyu racing drivers and aims to complement the existing 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer engine. Further details regarding the Japanese market indicate that this move follows a limited 500-unit release of a manual WRX STI Sport that required a lottery system due to high demand. The upcoming Japanese version, expected for a 2027 release, may feature engine mapping inspired by racing models. Additionally, Subaru is reportedly developing other manual-focused models, including a rear-wheel-drive sports coupe based on the BRZ and a 5-door hatchback aimed at mass-producing the Performance-B STI concept. Regarding the 2027 Outback, Subaru of America has announced pricing that includes a new entry-level trim designed to increase affordability. The new base model starts at an MSRP of $32,995, which is approximately $2,000 less than the entry price of the previous model. Other trims, including the Limited, Touring, Limited XT, Touring XT, and Wilderness, trims have also seen price reductions ranging from $770 to $1,900. The 2027 base model features a 2.5-liter flat-four engine with all-wheel drive, a 12.1-inch Subaru Multimedia System touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster. These vehicles are expected to arrive at United States retailers later this year.
