Efforts to facilitate the voluntary return of Sudanese nationals from Egypt and Libya to Sudan have expanded through various humanitarian and transport initiatives. Early efforts involving the Hope Committee for Voluntary Return and the Al-Aziziyah Cross-Border Land Transport Company successfully facilitated the return of approximately 50,000 people. To assist those affected by conflict, transport companies reduced ticket prices and provided free bus services for families unable to afford travel. Subsequent operations by the Al-Amal Committee for Voluntary Return have continued to move groups of Sudanese nationals from Cairo via bus. These initiatives have also prioritized the academic sector, with plans to transport approximately 15,000 university students and 500 professors to support the upcoming academic year. Officials noted that these returnees are expected to contribute to reconstruction and stability efforts within Sudan. Recent operations by the Al-Amal Committee include the departure of 882 Sudanese nationals from the Giza governorate on September 18, 2026. This group, traveling via 18 buses, included students such as medical students from the University of Khartoum. Maher Al-Zain, head of the transport committee for Al-Amal, noted an increasing interest in returning, potentially linked to the declining value of the Sudanese pound against foreign currencies. On October 11, 2026, the Al-Amal Committee launched a new phase of its program, sending 18 buses from Cairo carrying 882 Sudanese nationals. This phase has also included specialized trips for religious leaders, such as a recent transport of 49 members of Sufi orders and their families, including ceremonial items for religious shrines. Since the conflict began in April 2023, over 1.2 million Sudanese have fled to Egypt. Official figures indicate that On October 24, 2026, the total number of voluntary returnees committee deployed 25 buses to Sudan reached 428,676 by the end of 2025. transport 1,225 Sudanese citizens, including general education students and civil service employees.
