The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) is engaging in various international efforts to expand its economic and industrial influence. Initial efforts focused on strengthening ties with Panama. Discussions between the SCZONE Chairman and the Panamanian Ambassador to Cairo aimed to deepen cooperation between the SCZONE and the Colon Free Zone. The partnership seeks to exchange logistical and industrial expertise, leveraging the SCZONE’s access to African and Middle Eastern markets alongside Panama’s access to Latin America. Egypt has since expanded its outreach to East Asia. During a visit to Seoul, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi met with 23 major Korean companies to propose the creation of an integrated Korean industrial zone within the SCZONE. This zone is intended to function as a regional production and export hub for South Korean companies, utilizing Egypt’s free trade agreements to reach markets in Africa, the Arab world, and the European Union. El-Sisi noted that the two nations have elevated their relationship to a “strategic partnership.” Furthering its investment outreach, the SCZONE hosted trade delegations from China and Hong Kong. A delegation from the CCPIT Shaanxi Sub-Council met with officials to discuss investments in clean energy, automotive manufacturing, advanced technology, electronics, and logistics, building on existing successes in the TEDA and Qantara West industrial zones. Simultaneously, a delegation from the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) toured the Sokhna Industrial Zone to explore cooperation in electronics, logistics, textiles, and garments. Reflecting its growing global standing, the SCZONE was ranked seventh globally in fDi Intelligence’s 2026 Global Free Zones of the Year awards. It was also recognized as Africa’s best industrial zone, a distinction attributed to Egypt’s infrastructure development, political stability, and economic reforms aimed at attracting global manufacturing and logistics investment.
