In mid-July 2026, various beach facilities across Japan opened for the summer season. In Hyōgo Prefecture, Akashi announced the opening of the Daizō Coast beach with upgraded family-friendly amenities, including specialized nursing and diaper-changing stations. Simultaneously, Ito City in Shizuoka Prefecture opened three seaside sites—Ito Orange Beach, Usami Beach, and Kawanai Iruka Beach—featuring monitoring stations and recreational attractions. By early August, the summer season expanded to include various beach festivals and programs. In Fujisawa, the "ENOSHIMA JAM ROCK 2026" reggae music event was scheduled throughout different Japanese regions, including music-focused events for August 9 at Katase Higashihama Beach. In Miyagi Prefecture, the "Island Fest 2026" took place at Katsurajima Beach from August 8 to August 11, featuring music and seafood collaborations between residents and students. Additionally, the summer activities included educational initiatives, such as the "Marine Challenge Program 2026" Kansai Regional Competition held in Fujisawa. Osaka on August 8. This program, which supports teenage research on marine and water environments, saw ten teams present findings, with four qualifying for the national competition in Tokyo in February 2027.
