During the summer of 2026, various nature and heritage excursions are being organized throughout the Netherlands. Initial activities included a summer evening walk at the Aekingerzand sand area to learn about wildlife and reforestation, alongside guided forest tours for children at Castle Hernen. Subsequent programming expanded to include birdwatching excursions in the Medemblik and Wieringen regions to observe migration patterns, as well as educational evening cycling tours hosted by IVN De Ronde Venen & Uithoorn. In August, birdwatching excursions in the Medemblik and Wieringen regions, including visits to Waterberging Twisk and the Medemblik foreshore, allow for the observation of species such as avocets, kingfishers, curlews, godwits, and white storks. Guides utilize telescopes to facilitate close-up views and discuss the importance of protected habitats. The IVN De Ronde Venen & Uithoorn summer cycling tours continue to offer free 25-kilometer evening rides featuring educational talks on local landscapes. Additional seasonal walking routes have been established, such as the ‘Rondje Abtswoudsebos’ in Midden-Delfland, an 8 km path through meadows and historical dikes. Furthermore, Staatsbosbeheer has scheduled a guided summer evening walk at the Aekingerzand for August 20, focusing on sand dunes, blooming heather, and local biodiversity including sand beetles and the stonechat bird.
