Supermarket disturbances in Italy

Overview

In mid-September 2026, separate incidents of disruptive behavior at supermarkets occurred in the Italian regions of Umbria and Marche.

In Foligno, a 35-year-old man was arrested following a confrontation at a supermarket. After reportedly disturbing customers and refusing to provide identification, the individual became hostile toward police, resulting in a physical struggle that required pepper spray to resolve. The suspect was charged with resistance and injury to a public official.

In Ancona, police and Italian Army personnel intervened at a Coop supermarket in the Piano district. A 30-year-old Somali man was identified after allegedly harassing customers and threatening a security manager. Due to his state of alteration, the individual was transported to the Torrette emergency room for medical evaluation.
