Suriname trade and investment initiatives

Suriname is pursuing several initiatives to enhance its investment climate and expand regional and bilateral trade.

On October 20, Suriname participated in an Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Regional Policy Dialogue to launch the LAC Investment Network. This regional platform aims to foster cooperation in trade, investment, and competitiveness among 22 countries. To support these goals, Suriname is working on a reform agenda that includes modernizing investment legislation, strengthening trade promotion, and simplifying administrative procedures through digital platforms.

On October 28, the Suriname Colombia Chamber N. V. was launched in Paramaribo to strengthen economic ties with Colombia. The organization seeks to facilitate market access and help businesses navigate regulatory frameworks, specifically aiming to address the trade deficit between the two nations. To support such international cooperation, the Surinamese government is developing a new Investment Law and a Local Content Law to ensure local companies and workers benefit from new projects through training and supply opportunities.
