The DFB Sports Court imposed a 100,000 euro fine on SV Waldhof Mannheim following severe crowd disturbances, including pyrotechnics and pitch incursions, during a DFB-Pokal match against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. These incidents resulted in injuries to both spectators and police officers. In addition to the financial penalty, the club must implement partial spectator restrictions for upcoming matches. For the match against TSG Hoffenheim II, general ticket sales are prohibited, limiting attendance to specific season ticket holders, VIP guests, and away fans. One such restriction is suspended on probation. This restriction is estimated to cost the club between 55,000 and 65,000 euros in lost revenue. The sanctions highlight ongoing financial and security challenges for the club. Since 2020, Waldhof Mannheim has paid nearly one million euros in fines to the DFB, the highest amount for any third-division club in that period. To help offset these costs and other deficits, club president Bernd Beetz provided approximately six million euros during the 2024/25 season. Local political figures figures, including AfD city council member Markus Rieger, have used the security issues to criticize management and call for increased measures and the criminalization of certain fan behaviors. DFB Vice President for Legal Affairs Thomas Bergmann stated that the incidents “crossed a line far” and do not represent fan culture.
