Following the seizure of the cargo vessel Caffa by Swedish police in March 2026, Sweden’s Supreme Court rejected an appeal by Caffa Shipping Ltd on 4 August 2026. The court confirmed that the vessel, which was sailing under a false Guinean flag and suspected of being part of Russia’s ‘shadow fleet’, will be transferred to Ukraine. Ukrainian investigators allege the ship was used to transport grain stolen from occupied Ukrainian territories. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga described the ruling as a ‘landmark precedent’ and the first court order to transfer a Russian ship suspected of moving stolen Ukrainian grain to Kyiv.
