Several prominent Swedish biathletes have announced pregnancies that will impact the 2026-2027 competition season. In September, Olympic gold medalists Hanna Öberg and Martin Ponsiluoma announced they are expecting their first child. Öberg confirmed she will miss the upcoming season due to her pregnancy, while Ponsiluoma intends to continue his professional career. In October, Olympic medalist Linn Gestblom also announced her pregnancy, stating she will miss the entire winter season and will instead “follow biathlon from my TV sofa.” Gestblom Gestblom, a 32-year-old multi-medalist with Olympic gold and silver, expects to become a parent in March. Her departure, following Öberg, means the Swedish national team will be without two of its major figures during the upcoming season. Beyond the Swedish team, the upcoming circuit will see further absences from top competitors, as Slovenian biathlete Anamarija Lampič and Norwegian athlete Ragnhild Femsteinevik have also announced pregnancies.
