Swedish heavy metal band RAM has prepared for the release of their seventh studio album, titled ‘Against’. Leading up to the launch, the band released the single ‘Abattoir’, which vocalist Oscar Carlquist described as “pure speed metal”. The upcoming album, released through Metal Blade Records, marks the band’s first full-length project in nearly seven years. The release coincides with a lineup change, as bassist Tobias “Tobbe” Petterson departs after seventeen years and is replaced by Desekrator. Upon its release on October 9, 2026, ‘Against’ has been noted for its aggressive riffs and high-energy songwriting, with tracks such as ‘Ghost Emperor’, ‘One vs. All’, ‘Night Blade’, and ‘Abattoir’ contributing to an old-school yet polished sound. Following the album launch, the band debuted a music video for the title track, ‘Against’, which is characterized as an “old-school, defiant anthem” centered on themes of facing overwhelming opposition. In further detail regarding the new material, vocalist Oscar Carlquist noted that ‘Against’ is an ‘old school’ track designed to avoid modern production trends in favor of a raw sound. The album represents a musical shift toward more concise songwriting and a grounded approach compared to the spiritual themes found in their previous work, ‘The Throne Within’. To achieve this unpolished, direct sonic profile, the band drew inspiration from classic recording philosophies and artists such as Dio, MSG, and Sweet.
