On 31 July, an opinion piece added a new dimension by accusing the Social Democratic Party of concealing a suite of tax increases behind election promises of cuts. The author highlighted a newly proposed mortgage tax, higher levies on ISK investment accounts, fuel, inheritance, gift and wealth taxes, and a reduced job‑tax deduction for high earners, arguing that these measures would raise household costs and contradict the party’s public messaging.
