The Swiss automotive sector is experiencing a shift toward digital marketing and subscription-based mobility models. Companies like Carify have partnered with the carXpert network to offer monthly-cost alternatives to traditional leasing, while the Matto-Group has implemented AI-driven platforms to automate vehicle advertising. However, the rise of car subscription services has led to regulatory scrutiny. The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco) has investigated Carvolution, alleging that its pricing methods violate the Price Indication Ordinance. Authorities suggest that advertised monthly rates can be misleading because they often require significant upfront down payments that are not immediately clear to consumers, thereby obscuring the true total cost of the subscription. In one instance, a customer reported expecting a monthly rate of 415 CHF, but after accounting for a 3,240 CHF down payment, the effective monthly cost rose to 685 CHF. Despite these regulatory challenges, subscription models continue to grow as alternatives to traditional leasing and purchasing. These services aim to provide budget certainty by bundling insurance, maintenance, taxes, and service into fixed monthly rates. In Switzerland, Carvolution is positioning its model as a solution for all age groups, moving beyond its perception as a lifestyle product for younger generations. The model attracts long-term users by eliminating residual value risks and offering the convenience of managing mileage and costs through mobile applications.
