In September 2026, several nighttime motorway closures and construction projects are underway in Switzerland to facilitate infrastructure maintenance and safety upgrades. The A2 motorway between Sissach and Eptingen is undergoing closures as part of a long-term project (2022–2027) to renew signaling and video equipment. Additionally, intensive resurfacing work on the Basel Osttangente (A2) is scheduled to continue until October 5, 2026. Recent weekend work near the Schwarzwald tunnel caused significant congestion, leading authorities to divert traffic from Germany onto local roads; some travelers experienced delays of up to 45 minutes. Concurrently, the Swiss Federal Roads Office (ASTRA) has announced nighttime closures on the A3 motorway’s North Tangent in Basel. From September 21 to October 9, the approximately 3-kilometer section between Basel-Euro Airport and the Wiese junction—which includes the St. Johann and Horburg tunnels—will close between 20:00 and 05:00, Monday through Friday. These works are required to decommission an old smoke detector system following the installation of new linear heat detectors. During these hours, traffic will be diverted through the local road network. New emergency repairs have been scheduled for the A2 motorway following a traffic accident that damaged the central lane guidance system at the east portal of the Schweizerhalle Tunnel. Full closures in both directions between Hagnau and Pratteln are set for the nights of October 5 through October 7, from 22:00 to 05:00. A subsequent single-direction closure toward Zurich/Luzern will occur from October 7 to October 8. Traffic will be diverted via Rheinfelderstrasse through an industrial area, though authorities noted repairs remain weather-dependent.
