Taiwan consumer confidence decline

Overview

Taiwan’s Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) fell to 66.27 points in October, a decrease of 2.5 points from the previous month. Confidence regarding the timing for purchasing durable goods reached its lowest level since October 2009, dropping to 82.97 points. This decline is attributed to factors such as high oil prices and a cooling real estate market.

While the indicator for the timing of purchasing property fell by 8.2 points to 90.64, the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research (TIER) maintains an optimistic outlook for the construction industry. TIER notes that demand for factories and office spaces is being driven by public infrastructure projects, urban renewal, and the expansion of the AI industry, despite challenges from high material costs.
