In observance of the Chongyang Festival, local governments across Taiwan are implementing various welfare initiatives and subsidies to honor senior citizens. In Changhua County, officials conducted visits to centenarians, including presenting ceremonial funds and gold ornaments. The county government is also promoting long-term support through community care centers and the ‘Changhua County Senior Happiness Card,’ which provides monthly subsidies for local purchases. Taichung City has established a tiered subsidy system for over 530,000 seniors. Residents aged 65 to 89 receive 2,000 TWD, those aged 90 to 94 receive 3,000 TWD, those aged 95 to 99 receive 5,000 TWD, and centenarians receive 10,000 TWD. Centenarians in Taichung also receive commemorative gold pieces from the Presidential Office and Ministry of Health and Welfare. To encourage social activity, the city is hosting cross-county promotional events through the end of the year. In Luodong Township, Mayor Wu Chiu-ling is personally visiting 16 centenarians to deliver 22,000 TWD in subsidies and traditional pig trotter noodles. While most residents aged 65 to 89 receive funds via bank transfer, personal visits are conducted for the oldest residents to express respect. In Chiayi and Pingtung counties, officials are also conducting visits to offer blessings and subsidies. In Chiayi County, Magistrate Weng Chang-liang visited centenarians in Shuishang and Lucao townships. In Pingtung County, Magistrate Chou Chun-mi visited 100-year-old resident Zhuang Ye-he. Pingtung reports a significant aging demographic, with elderly residents comprising 22.39% of the population. In Tainan, Mayor Huang Wei-che visited 100-year-old Zheng Deng-he to present a 10,000 TWD gift and presidential honors. Tainan, which has 407 residents aged 100 or older, provides services such as dental care subsidies and emergency rescue for seniors living alone. In Yilan County, Acting County Magistrate Lin Mao-sheng presented 113 centenarians with 20,000 TWD in gift money, pig trotter vermicelli, apples, and flowers. The county also collaborated with a local restaurant to provide nutritious congee for the elderly.
