Taiwan local election campaigns intensify

Overview

Political campaigning for upcoming local elections in Taiwan has intensified, moving from the establishment of headquarters to large-scale rallies and endorsements.

In Kaohsiung, Kuomintang (KMT) City Councilor Liu De-lin, seeking an eighth term, launched his campaign headquarters before over 3,000 supporters. Endorsed by Ka Chih-en, Liu emphasized his commitment to grassroots service, specifically focusing on youth housing, elderly welfare, and long-term care, while calling for a KMT council majority. Further mobilization occurred in Xiaogang, where former Mayor Han Kuo-yu joined mayoral candidate Ko Chih-en at a rally that drew nearly 5,000 people. In Pingtung, KMT candidate Su Ching-chuan held a large-scale event attended by approximately 15,000 people, featuring endorsements from Han Kuo-yu.

In Tainan, independent City Councilor Lin Kuan-wei inaugurated his headquarters in the Yongkang District with more than 3,000 attendees. Lin highlighted his decade of service and his role in securing over 500 million TWD for transportation, flood control, and school safety, while maintaining a non-partisan focus on social welfare like free school lunches.

In northern Taiwan, KMT official Cheng Li-wen has been active in several regions, expressing support for Mayor Kao Hung-an in Hsinchu and endorsing Chiang Wan-an for Mayor and Wang Chih-bing for council in Taipei. In New Taipei City, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Chang Chih-hao continues his campaign in Zhonghe, supported by officials such as Su Chiao-hui, as he seeks to secure a third seat for the party in the district.
