Indian shot putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor has expressed his ambition to reach a 22-meter throw to set a new benchmark for Indian athletics. Despite facing recurring injuries, such as a calf muscle tear, Toor aims to normalize higher performance standards for future generations. Following these ambitions, Toor secured a silver medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, with a best throw of 20.64 meters. This achievement marked his third consecutive podium finish at the event, following gold medals at the 2018 Jakarta and 2022 Hangzhou Games. Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha described the achievement as a ‘remarkable hat-trick’ of medals. Toor noted that his performance was affected by minor injuries sustained over the previous three months and wet competition conditions, expressing disappointment at missing a third consecutive gold. The gold medal was won by Iran’s Mohammadreza Tayebise, who set a new Games record with a throw of 20.81 meters, ~~while~~ surpassing Toor’s previous record of 20.75 meters set in 2018. Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed Tolu took the bronze with 20.48 meters.
