The Instituto Electoral de Tamaulipas (IETAM) has officially launched the 2026-2027 electoral process to fill 471 positions, including 43 municipal governments, 36 state deputies, and eight federal deputies. The process is scheduled to conclude on June 6, 2027. IETAM President Juan José Ramos Charre has pledged the institution’s commitment to impartiality and legal compliance, stating the body will not favor specific political projects or negotiate the law. He emphasized that the organization will defend its autonomy and called on political actors to treat opponents with respect rather than as enemies to avoid social confrontation during the 265-day process. Despite these assurances, the PRI has raised concerns regarding the integrity of the electoral process. Party leader Bruno Díaz Lara accused the Morena party of undermining democratic normality, specifically citing an incomplete General Council at IETAM, three vacant magistracies in the State Electoral Tribunal that have been unfilled for over two years, and insufficient budget allocations for the institute.
