Following the death of 13-year-old Dafne Zapata Quintos at the Academia Militarizada Doenitz in Tamaulipas, Mexican authorities have moved to dismantle the militarized school model. SEP Secretary Mario Delgado Carrillo has ordered 26 schools to undergo complete structural and curricular transformation to replace military concepts with civic education or face closure by the 2026-2027 cycle. Legal proceedings have intensified. Academy director Jorge Luis N faces a new arrest warrant for aggravated rape involving an alleged abuse from 20 years ago. Separately, the victim’s father, Gabriel Alejandro ‘Z’, is undergoing trial for the alleged sexual abuse of Dafne when she was six; he recently appeared via Zoom despite judicial orders for physical presence. President Claudia Sheinbaum has requested the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) to review the legal status of Danna Yanina Cruz Figueroa, an 18-year-old detained in connection with the femicide. This request follows meetings with Danna Yanina’s parents, who argue the young woman may be a victim of the academy’s environment rather than a perpetrator. The Tamaulipas State Attorney General’s Office confirmed that the trial for the feminicide is ongoing, with hearings underway to present evidence and testimony while authorities conduct searches of the academy's premises. Regarding the victim's remains, the Tamaulipas Attorney General, Jesús Eduardo Govea Orozco, has declined a mother's request to exhume Dafne Zapata Quintos' body, stating the prosecution has no current plans to proceed with an exhumation as it is not within the current scope of the investigation. In a new development, a judge in Altamira, Tamaulipas, has formally linked Juan Jesús “M”, an instructor and legal defender at the Doenitz academy, to a criminal process for aggravated rape against a minor. The defendant, known as “Comandante Mora”, is the brother of Estrellita Mora, the alleged perpetrator in the Zapata femicide case.
