Political friction continues to grow within the Tamil Nadu alliance between the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and the Indian National Congress regarding leadership ambitions for the 2029 elections. On September 8, following a second round of consultative meetings chaired by Chief Minister and TVK founder C. Joseph Vijay at the party headquarters in Panaiyur, Chennai, the ruling coalition officially named itself the ‘Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance’. The meeting aimed to formalize the coalition's structure by drafting a Common Minimum Programme, establishing a steering committee, and selecting an official name. Key partners in attendance included the Indian National Congress, VCK, IUML, and MDMK. The bloc emphasized secularism and social justice as its core ideological pillars. The formation of this alliance follows the 2026 Assembly elections, in which the TVK emerged as the single largest party. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India (CPI) boycotted the talks.
