Overview
Tanzania and South Korea have agreed to accelerate a $2.5 billion financing commitment through South Korea’s Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF). The funding is intended to support strategic development projects across transport, technology, industry, health, and culture.
During discussions in Seoul, Tanzanian Finance Minister Khamis Mussa Omar emphasized the necessity of improved coordination to avoid previous delays related to engineering designs and feasibility studies. The two nations pledged to monitor projects stemming from President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s 2024 visit to South Korea.
Specific upcoming initiatives include the construction of a Smart ICT College in Dodoma, the Zanzibar International Convention and Exhibition Centre, and medical developments at Binguni Referral Hospital and Muhimbili National Hospital. Other focus areas include the Ifakara-Mahenge road construction to support graphite mining and the procurement of passenger coaches for the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).
