Tanzanian Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi has initiated a series of directives focused on government accountability and improved public services. In late August 2026, Ndejembi called for increased innovation and efficiency within the Office of the Vice-President, Union and Environment. He urged staff to move beyond routine habits to meet government responsibilities and emphasized the importance of sustainable environmental conservation and safeguarding the Union. By mid-September 2026, the Vice President’s focus shifted toward specific local infrastructure and public health issues. During a visit to the Pugu Dumpsite in Dar es Salaam, he ordered authorities to address resident grievances and implement pest control to mitigate disease risks. He also demanded the creation of a joint action plan for waste management and called for accurate data regarding waste volumes to ensure effective planning. On September 19, 2026, Ndejembi expanded his focus to institutional cooperation. During a meeting with 39 institution heads in Zanzibar, he called for increased collaboration among Union institutions to improve public services in health, education, and the economy, stressing the need for a “unified vision” to benefit citizens. In Dar es Salaam, Ndejembi conducted a surprise inspection of the Ng’ombe River in Tandale to assess flood preparedness and environmental sanitation. He ordered the immediate removal of waste from the riverbanks and directed local authorities to establish formal disposal sites and improve collection infrastructure to prevent illegal dumping. Concurrently, CCM official Kenani Kihongosi called for stricter accountability regarding infrastructure projects in the Temeke District, urging the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) to take action against contractors for poor performance on road projects valued at over 92 billion Tanzanian shillings.
