The fourth edition of the Taras Teatro Festival, themed ‘Scena antica e visioni contemporanee’ (Ancient scenes and contemporary visions), is scheduled to take place in Taranto from September 12 to October 16. Centered on the concept of ~~freedom,~~ freedom and inspired by the words of Piero Calamandrei, the program includes ten shows across thirteen performances, featuring five national premieres. Productions such as ‘Antigone atto terzo’ by Valeria Cimaglia and ‘Prometeo a Taranto. La fabbrica illuminata’ by German director Joscha Zmarzlik will be staged at various venues, including Teatro ~~TaTÀ~~ TaTÀ, Teatro Comunale Fusco, the Museo Diocesano cloister, and MArTA. Artistic director Massimo Cimaglia stated that the festival intends to meet the cultural needs of the region with ‘an ethics and a soul’. On September 24 and 25, the festival will host the national premiere of ‘Prometeo a Taranto. La fabbrica illuminata’ at the TaTÀ auditorium. Produced by the company Opera To Go, the play connects Promethean myth with the city’s industrial history, utilizing the music of avant-garde pioneer Luigi Nono. The production incorporates texts by Giuliano Scabia and Cesare Pavese to examine progress as both enlightenment and a threat to the environment. A central element involves the local community, featuring a chorus of fifteen Taranto citizens whose voices reflect on the city’s social, economic, and environmental challenges.
