The 2026/2027 Tauron Hokej Liga season has commenced in Poland with several key developments. The league has expanded to ten teams, including the return of Podhale Nowy Targ and the formation of STS Sanok. To promote domestic talent, the Polish Ice Hockey Federation (PZHL) has implemented a policy requiring clubs to maintain at least 10 Polish players and offering financial rewards for teams utilizing the most Polish players under the age of 23. In early season play, GKS Tychy secured a significant 10:1 victory over Podhale Nowy Targ. Polonia Bytom has since maintained strong momentum, securing their second consecutive win with a 2:1 victory against JKH GKS Jastrzębie. Polonia Bytom continued their success with a dominant 12:2 victory over Podhale Nowy Targ, featuring a historic performance by 16-year-old Amadeusz Tyński, who became the “youngest goalscorer in the elite division.” Recent league action saw KH Energa Toruń maintain an undefeated status following a 4:1 away victory against defending champions GKS Tychy. However, GKS Katowice recently ended Toruń’s undefeated streak with a 7:0 shutout. GKS Tychy also secured a 2:1 away win against Polonia Bytom, with Szymon Kiełbicki scoring the decisive third-period goal. Other notable results include Zagłębie Sosnowiec defeating Unia Oświęcim 5:2, GKS Katowice winning a Silesian derby against JKH GKS Jastrzębie 3:2, and Polonia Bytom securing a 6:1 win over STS Sanok-Sokół. In the 8th round, Polonia Bytom secured a 2-1 away victory against GKS Katowice. This marks the second time Polonia Bytom has defeated the Polish vice-champion this season, positioning the team near the top of the league table. As the season progresses, Polonia Bytom currently holds the lead in the hockey standings.
