Texas Christian University (TCU) dismissed senior safety Jacob Fields following an alleged aggravated assault of a teammate in a locker room on August 13. The university cited a “violation of team rules” for the dismissal. While Fields’ agent claimed social media reports were “false or purely speculative,” the incident involved allegations of a physical altercation. Following reports by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram regarding the locker room incident, TCU revoked media credentials for the publication. The university justified this action by stating the newspaper’s coverage resulted in threats to a student-athlete. The dispute intensified after wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma posted a video claiming Fields hit him from behind, causing him to lose consciousness. Legal proceedings have since escalated, with Fields being charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. Fields turned himself in to the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office and was released on a $50,000 bond. While his agent continues to dispute the accuracy of social media reports, his attorney has raised concerns regarding the bond hearing process.
