Telangana BJP President Ramchander Rao has engaged in a series of political criticisms directed at the Congress party and the INDI alliance. Rao condemned the opposition for being “dubious and hypocritical” regarding student protests in Jharkhand and criticized national leaders for their handling of parliamentary debates and the NEET paper leak. Rao expanded his opposition to include the Congress-led government in Telangana, accusing it of failing its responsibilities through policies like HYDRAA and HILT. Political tensions escalated in late August following the arrest and house arrest of Rao in Hyderabad. The BJP claimed the detention was intended to prevent him from traveling to Nalgonda to support a leader whose residence was allegedly attacked by Congress workers. In response, the BJP staged massive protests across the state, with party members accusing the government of creating an “undeclared emergency.” Additionally, Rao and other party members have criticized the state government’s handling of the law and order situation following the alleged rape and murder of a nurse in the Rangareddy district. In early September, tensions rose further when Hyderabad police prevented a BJP rally scheduled to proceed from Balapur to the Bhagyalakshmi Temple at Charminar. The move led to the detention of several party leaders, including Andela Sriramulu Yadav. Rao criticized the administration, alleging that the denial of permission for the ‘Vimochan Jaithra Yatra’ reflects a policy of appeasement and an attempt to stifle celebrations related to Telangana Mukti Divas, which commemorates the 1948 merger of the Hyderabad State into the Indian Union. Following these restrictions, the BJP launched the ‘Chalo Assembly’ campaign, calling for an ‘Assembly siege’ to protest the government’s handling of student welfare.
