In early September 2026, a state government-appointed committee recommended increasing auto-rickshaw fares in Hyderabad to address economic pressures and potential driver strikes. The proposal suggested raising the minimum fare from ₹20 to ₹30 and increasing the per-kilometer rate from ₹11 to ₹14, marking the first such adjustment since 2014. By early October 2026, the Telangana government implemented these revised auto-rickshaw tariffs, which include a 1.5x surcharge for travel between 11 pm and 5 am and a waiting charge of 75 paise per minute. The Transport Commissioner was granted a three-month window to facilitate the resetting of digital meters to reflect these new rates. Alongside the fare changes, the government introduced a common pass system integrating Hyderabad Metro Rail and Telangana Road Transport Corporation (RTC) bus services. The monthly common pass is priced at ₹8,500 (₹7,000 for Metro and ₹1,500 for RTC), while a daily pass is set at ₹400 for travel within the Outer Ring Road limits. Additionally, TGSRTC introduced a ₹600 weekly bus pass for unlimited travel on eligible city services, excluding Pushpak Airport Liner buses. Following widespread public complaints regarding the high costs of the integrated pass, the government announced a review of the pricing. Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka stated that officials will assess commuter feedback and travel requirements to ensure the system does not impose an “undue financial burden on citizens.”
