Speculation regarding a revival of the classic SNES action RPG Terranigma emerged following a teaser from Clear River Games for the Pixel Arcadia Showcase. The teaser included references to the original Quintet title, such as an arranged version of the track ‘Prayer’ and the quote: ‘Wake up! All the living things in the world await your awakening!’. Following these indications, Clear River Games and Square Enix officially announced that Terranigma will receive a modern remaster in early 2027. This release marks the first time the game will be officially available in North America, a region it missed due to the closure of Enix’s US operations. The remaster is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and GOG, with both digital and physical editions planned. While preserving the original’s core gameplay and pixel-based presentation, the project will include upgrades, tweaks, and bonus content. Original character and world designer Kamui Fujiwara is returning to provide new key art and in-game designs. Additionally, the soundtrack will feature newly arranged pieces of the original score. The game follows the journey of a boy named Ark as he attempts to resurrect the Earth. Clear River Games describes the project as a faithful reimagining intended to preserve the legacy of the title during a period of industry focus on retro game preservation.
