British counter-terrorism police have arrested five men in their 20s following a major incident near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire. The arrests occurred in the early hours of Sunday after reports of three suspicious white vans moving toward the airbase, which is used by the United States military for strategic operations, including strikes against Iranian missile sites.

Gloucestershire Police declared a major incident and established a 400-meter security perimeter around the vehicles. Army bomb disposal teams were deployed to examine the vans. As a precaution, approximately 85 households in the nearby village of Welford were evacuated to a local leisure center.

The suspects, described as British nationals from London, were initially detained on suspicion of explosives-related offenses before being re-arrested on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act. While investigators are exploring potential links to Iran, Russia, or non-state militant groups, the Iranian Embassy in London has categorically rejected any involvement in the incident.

The US Air Force stated that its personnel remain vigilant and are taking necessary steps to ensure the safety of service members and civilians. The UK government has noted that the investigation is ongoing and has declined further comment at this stage.
