Tesla has initiated multiple vehicle recalls across different markets addressing various safety concerns. In the United States, the company recalled approximately 20,000 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles because certain low-beam headlights may exceed federal brightness limits, potentially increasing crash risks by reducing visibility for drivers and oncoming motorists. In China, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) has overseen massive recalls involving millions of vehicles. One recall affects approximately 2.97 2.98 million vehicles because vehicles—including Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X units—because the interior emergency mechanical door handles are too similar in color to the surrounding trim. This design flaw could make them difficult to identify and operate during a severe crash when low-voltage systems fail, potentially hindering passenger escape and rescue efforts. Tesla intends to address this via free warning labels and over-the-air (OTA) updates for window-lowering strategies. to automatically lower windows following an accident. A second recall involves approximately 2.74 million domestically produced Model 3 and Model Y vehicles regarding the driver assistance system. This issue concerns an insufficient attention monitoring mechanism that may not adequately alert drivers when they look away from the road. Tesla plans to rectify this using OTA updates to integrate cabin camera monitoring to supplement existing steering torque sensors. These recalls involve various models, including the Model 3, Model Y, Model X, occur amid a broader regulatory environment in China, which has launched a massive automotive recall campaign involving over 7 million vehicles from eleven manufacturers. Furthermore, China is set to ban concealed or ‘hidden’ door handles starting in 2027, targeting designs popularized by Tesla and Model S. other domestic electric vehicle makers.
