The Thai government is finalizing preparations for a mobile Cabinet meeting in Songkhla province, scheduled for August 31 to September 1, 2026. The session is designed to gather direct feedback and address regional development needs across five southern provinces: Songkhla, Pattani, Narathiwat, Satun, and Yala. As the meeting approaches, local authorities and the private sector have submitted 96 development projects with an estimated total value of approximately 13.09 billion baht. These proposals include urgent infrastructure requirements such as water management systems, bridge construction in Hat Yai, and airport connectivity, alongside large-scale strategic projects in Pattani and Yala. Economic initiatives focus on reducing logistics costs through deep-sea ports, motorways, and dual-track railways, supplemented by requests for tax incentives and soft loans. To further support the regional economy, the Ministry of Industry has proposed a five-year extension of factory fee exemptions for Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, and four districts in Songkhla. This measure aims to reduce costs for 683 factories and support approximately 15,000 jobs, despite an estimated 13.28 million baht loss in government revenue. Social welfare and cultural issues are also on the agenda, with the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security working to address poverty and the needs of vulnerable groups affected by regional instability. In a notable regulatory change, the government announced that the Red-whiskered Bulbul is no longer classified as a protected wildlife ~~species. This decision is intended~~ species to respect local traditions ~~in the southern provinces~~ and foster economic opportunities in bird breeding. To ensure sustainable growth, development in the Chana district will be guided by a three-year Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). Government spokesperson Ratchada Thanadirek emphasized that this study will ensure community participation and legal compliance.
