The King and Queen of Thailand are conducting a historic state visit to Vietnam, marking the first such visit by a Thai monarch and queen since diplomatic ties were established in 1976. Scheduled to take place from September 14 to 16, 2026, the visit follows high-level exchanges and coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations. The mission aims to strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which was upgraded in May 2025, and bolster economic cooperation with a bilateral trade target of $25 billion. On September 14, King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida arrived at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi. The visit was extended by invitation from Vietnamese General Secretary and President To Lam and his spouse. To mark the occasion, the King personally piloted the Royal Thai Air Force aircraft. The royal couple was welcomed by high-ranking Vietnamese officials, including Chairman of the Presidential Office Le Khanh Hai and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Hoang Giang. A formal welcome ceremony was held at the National Assembly, which featured a 21-gun salute from the Imperial Citadel of Thăng Long and a review of the Vietnamese People's Army honor guard. Following these ceremonies, the leaders proceeded to official talks to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
