The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has introduced several initiatives aimed at transitioning the country toward high-value tourism. Initially, the TAT launched the ‘Amazing Locations: From Scene to Scenic’ campaign, which utilizes film-inspired tourism to drive sustainable income to local communities by promoting cinematic filming sites as travel destinations. Building on these efforts, the TAT has detailed its 2027 strategic marketing plan, ‘The Year of Transformation’. This initiative seeks to reposition Thailand as a leading high-value destination in Asia, prioritizing meaningful travel experiences over visitor volume to achieve at least five percent revenue growth over 2026 levels. A primary goal is to place Thailand among the top three Asian destinations for traveler loyalty. The strategy utilizes a 60:40 distribution model through the ‘The Link Plus’ program, aiming to direct 40 percent of visitors to 19 emerging or secondary locations to increase international arrivals in those areas by 10 percent. To reduce market dependency, the ‘Rebalance Market Portfolio’ program will target new segments in Eastern Europe and Latin America, categorizing travelers into Mainstream, Experience, High Value, and Premium segments. The roadmap is organized into four pillars: rebalancing the market portfolio, developing an experience platform centered on the concept ‘Healing is the New Luxury’, creating growth engines such as wellness, gastronomy, culture, festivals, and sports, and fostering collective transformation within the sector. Additionally, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports plans to establish a public-private committee to promote Thailand as a year-round destination. TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool stated that the initiative is a commitment to transforming Thai tourism around long-term competitiveness and value.
