The Thessaly Region has initiated a project to construct several high-standard, energy-autonomous indoor swimming pools across various municipalities. The regional authority, led by Dimitris Kouretas, has signed contracts for facilities in locations including Tyrnavos, Farkadona, Farsala, Almouros, Elassona, and Palama. Specific details regarding the Almyros project indicate a budget of 1,335,000 euros including VAT, with an expected construction timeline of 18 months. These facilities are designed to feature 10x25 meter pools with variable depths and modern amenities such as water recycling systems and medical offices. In Almyros, the development is accompanied by a planned 800,000 euro project for the Kouri Forest entrance, which will include tennis and padel courts, outdoor gyms, and pedestrian paths. This initiative, carrying an initial budget of nearly 8 million euros, aims to expand sports infrastructure beyond major urban centers such as Larissa, Volos, Trikala, and Karditsa. By focusing on smaller and regional municipalities, the project seeks to provide better access to mass, school, and amateur sports for residents in more remote areas. Construction is scheduled to begin immediately following the contract signings for the six new modern indoor swimming pools and training centers.
