Tiago Santos knee injury and club dispute

Overview

During a Ligue 1 match against Le Havre AC on October 10, 2026, LOSC Lille defender Tiago Santos sustained a knee injury following a heavy tackle by Amir Richardson. Subsequent medical assessments confirmed a total rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee and a meniscus lesion. This injury represents a significant setback for the 24-year-old Portuguese defender, who previously suffered an ACL rupture in his left knee in 2024. The injury is expected to require a long rehabilitation period and may sideline him for the remainder of the season.

The incident has escalated into a formal dispute between the clubs. LOSC Lille expressed frustration over the officiating, stating that the lack of a sanction for the challenge warranted formal complaints to the FFF and LFP. Beyond contesting the refereeing decisions, LOSC has indicated it is considering legal action to seek damages for the injury sustained by the player, describing the tackle as “uncontrolled and dangerous”. Le Havre AC has issued a statement defending the refereeing and VAR decisions while expressing support for Santos.
