Overview
China is constructing the Tushuo Solar Thermal Power Plant in the Amdo district of the Tibet Autonomous Region. Located at an altitude of 4,650 meters, the facility is the first solar thermal tower plant in Tibet and is noted as the highest-altitude plant of its kind.
Initial reports highlighted the completion of mirror installation, involving 15,927 heliostats across an 800,000-square-meter field designed to direct light toward a 210-meter central tower. The project utilizes molten salt technology to provide eight hours of thermal energy storage, allowing for electricity production after sunset.
The 100 MW capacity plant is expected to connect to the power grid by October 2026. It is projected to generate approximately 255 million kWh of electricity annually, serving about 50,000 households while aiming to replace 60,000 tons of coal consumption and prevent 165,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
