Members of the Tisza Party in Hungary have faced public scrutiny regarding their involvement with animal welfare and environmental issues. Márk Radnai, the party’s Vice President and government commissioner for social dialogue, was accused by the Dharma Horse and Animal Shelter in Siófok of using the facility for ‘political agitation’ and ‘clout chasing’ during a spring election campaign. The shelter management claimed that despite filming a campaign video at the site, Radnai failed to provide promised support and left the facility to fund animal care through its own resources. Separately, Tibor Kaprinyák, a Tisza Party member and deputy chairman of the parliamentary Committee on Living Environment, has faced intense scrutiny following the release of photographs showing him posing with hunting trophies from luxury safaris in Africa, including lions, antelopes, and buffaloes. Following an ethical investigation initiated by the party, Kaprinyák has been removed from the Committee for Living Environment. The Tisza Party leadership made this decision based on a recommendation from its ethics committee after the controversy was brought to the attention of Péter Magyar. Kaprinyák’s parliamentary work has been suspended pending further decisions regarding his future roles. László Gajdos, the Minister responsible for the living environment, addressed the controversy after receiving thousands of inquiries. Gajdos stated that he condemns all violence against animals and noted that hunting is fundamentally opposed to his personal beliefs. He clarified that Kaprinyák holds no official position within the ministry and that his appointment to the parliamentary committee was a decision made by the Tisza Party faction. The Momentum Movement has criticized the practice as unethical, particularly for a politician serving on an environmental committee, while former politician Gábor Horn remarked that such a hobby is ‘politically unfortunate’ for someone in a leadership role regarding environmental issues. ministry.
