Laurez Moreira, the PSD candidate for the governorship of Tocantins, has engaged in efforts to build political support and outline his administration’s priorities. Moreira traveled to Brasília to meet with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and other national political figures, including Planning Minister Simone Tebet. These meetings were intended to strengthen ties with the federal government and secure investments for Tocantins in sectors such as infrastructure, health, and education. Moreira is running as part of a coalition aligned with the Lula administration, which includes the PT, PSB, PDT, PV, and PCdoB. During the campaign, Moreira participated in the first televised gubernatorial debate, where he emphasized democratic dialogue and the need for concrete projects to address job creation and regional development. He proposed an ‘itinerant cabinet’ for the first 60 days of his potential term to conduct objective diagnoses of local needs. This initiative would move the state executive presence from the capital, Palmas, to various regions, using technical teams to inspect healthcare, infrastructure, education, public security, sanitation, and agriculture while engaging directly with local managers and residents. In subsequent political discussions following a debate organized by the Federação das Indústrias do Estado do Tocantins (Fieto) and TV Jovem Record, Moreira focused his remarks on criticizing the current government’s lack of planning and delays in state public works. Expanding on his infrastructure platform, Moreira has pledged to prioritize road paving in the north-central region. He has specifically proposed paving 141 kilometers of unpaved roads, including segments of the TO-164 and TO-239, to facilitate agricultural transport. To further support the rural sector, he proposed the ‘IPVA Zero no Campo’ program, which would exempt motorcycles used by rural workers from vehicle tax. Additionally, Moreira has advocated for the emancipation of the Luzimangues district.
