The route for the 2026 Tour de Lombardie (Giro di Lombardia) has been officially announced. The 239-kilometer race is scheduled for October 10, 2026, starting in Bergamo and finishing in Como. The course is described as highly demanding, featuring nine climbs with a total elevation gain of 4,600 meters. Notable ascents include the Selvino, Berbenno, Valpiana, and the Giovenzana climb, which features average gradients of 9.2 percent. The route also includes the Madonna del Ghisallo, the Civiglio, and a double ascent of the San Fermo della Battaglia, with the final climb occurring approximately five kilometers from the finish line. Recent updates highlight that the Ghisallo ascent features gradients reaching 14%. The race is expected to be highly competitive due to the absence of Tadej Pogacar, who has won every edition since 2021. Key contenders identified for the 120th edition include Remco Evenepoel, Enric Mas, Tom Pidcock, and Davide Piganzoli. In Spain, viewers can follow the event via Eurosport, HBO Max, and platforms such as Movistar and DAZN. Twenty-five teams are expected to participate, including all 18 WorldTour formations. Automatic invitations have been extended to second-division teams Tudor, Pinarello Q36.5, and Cofidis, while four additional invitations were issued by RCS Sport to Bardiani CSF 7 Saber, MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort, Team Polti Visit Malta, and Unibet Rose Rockets. Details for the 98th edition of the Piccolo Giro di Lombardia U23 have also been finalized. Organized by Velo Club Oggiono, this UCI Europe Tour event is scheduled for Saturday, October 3. The 177-kilometer course will start and end in Oggiono, featuring the Ghisallo climb and a circuit in the Brianza area passing through Barzago, Galbiate, and Bellagio. Recent updates to the U23 course details note a selective circuit including the climb of Ello and ascents such as Villa Vergano and Marconaga di Ello. In related cycling news, Colombian champion Nairo Quintana has announced his retirement, which will take place following the Giro dell'Emilia on October 3 in Ferrara.
