Tourism decline in Cyprus

Overview

Tourism in Cyprus has experienced a downward trend throughout 2026. In September, officials reported an 8 percent decline in arrivals during the first seven months of the year, with projections suggesting a 5 percent annual decrease. Factors cited for this decline included regional conflicts involving Iran and Israel, as well as a drone strike at RAF Akrotiri.

By October, data indicated a 7 percent decrease in tourist arrivals through August compared to the previous year. This downturn was primarily driven by significant losses in European markets, specifically a 36.5 percent drop from France and a 33.5 percent drop from Italy, alongside a 10 percent decrease from the United Kingdom. These losses have been partially offset by arrivals from Israel, which are expected to reach between 650,000 and 700,000 by the end of the year.
