Toyota is advancing the global rollout of its updated Hilux lineup, which includes internal combustion, hybrid, and electric powertrains. In Argentina, a new version of the Hilux was spotted at a service station in Santa Fe. The uncamouflaged unit carries the “Travo” designation, a name previously registered in Thailand for high-specification models, suggesting the vehicle may be a high-trim configuration similar to the local SRX. To reinforce the durability of the ninth-generation Hilux Electric, Toyota conducted a stress test at Bentwaters Airport in the United Kingdom. Recreating a famous television durability test, a 760kg camping trailer was dropped from over 9 meters onto the vehicle’s cabin. While the impact caused body damage, including a dented roof and broken windows, the electric pickup was able to start and drive away under its own power. This BEV model features dual motors, all-wheel drive, a 59.2 kWh battery, and a range of approximately 257 km, while maintaining a wading depth of 700 mm. Toyota has officially launched the ninth generation of the Hilux in European markets, including Croatia and the Czech Republic. In Croatia, the 2.8-liter diesel Hybrid 48V model produces 204 HP and 500 Nm of torque. In the Czech Republic, pre-sales have begun for a fully electric variant featuring a 196 HP motor and a 59.2 kWh battery, specifically targeting commercial sectors like mining and agriculture. ~~This electric model offers a combined range of approximately 257 km and supports 125 kW fast charging.~~ Toyota is also expanding its hydrogen-powered Hilux development. Toyota GAZOO Racing has completed the DKR GR FC Hilux prototype, which utilizes a dual-stack fuel cell system producing 400kW. The vehicle will compete in the 2027 Dakar Rally ‘Dakar Future Mission 1000’ category with driver Dania Akeel, testing the technology under extreme conditions to inform future commercial FCEV development.
