In mid‑July, newly promoted TPS Turku were preparing for a home match against Ilves, sitting seventh in the Veikkausliiga with 22 points after 15 games. The club had been strong at home, winning five of its last six fixtures. By early August, after hosting IFK Mariehamn and securing a 3‑0 victory, TPS remained on 22 points but had slipped to eighth place after 17 matches. The win, highlighted by two first‑half goals from Kian Visser and a third from Samuel Anini Junior, came as IFK Mariehamn struggled at the bottom of the table under a new head coach. On August 14, TPS secured its first away win of the season with a 3–1 victory over VPS in Vasa, strengthening its position in the race for the upper playoffs. Timo Zaal opened the scoring in the 44th minute, followed by an Albijon Muzaci penalty just before halftime. Although Xavier Odhiambo scored for VPS in the 76th minute, Nils Veinberg secured the win for TPS with a header in the 80th minute. The match also resulted in Emmanuel Okereke receiving a second yellow card, making him unavailable for the upcoming fixture against Ilves.
