Richarlison’s future at Tottenham Hotspur remains unresolved following the collapse of transfer negotiations with Vasco da Gama and a failed summer move to Everton. Although the clubs had reportedly reached an agreement regarding the transfer fee, the move failed because the player could not agree on personal terms. The impasse centered on contract length; Richarlison sought a short-term commitment until December 2026, while Vasco da Gama required a longer term of three to four years. New developments indicate that while Vasco da Gama’s sporting director, Admar Lopes, secured financial backing to pivot from a loan to a permanent purchase offer, Richarlison rejected the terms, citing it was “not the right time to return to Brazil.” Following these failed negotiations, manager Roberto De Zerbi excluded the striker from the Premier League squad and assigned him to the U-21 team, stating, “Richarlison is a good guy but I can’t forget what happened in the last 45 days.” As the situation evolves, Tottenham is expected to facilitate the striker's departure during the January transfer window. To avoid the player leaving for free when his contract expires in June 2027, the club may reduce its asking price to between £15m and £20m. This is a significant decrease from the previous £35m valuation, which led to the rejection of a £20m offer from Trabzonspor. While De Zerbi had previously proposed a contract extension, the club now appears willing to sell to resolve the impasse caused by high wages and the player's lack of competitive involvement. Reports suggest Richarlison may leave English football entirely for another market when the window reopens. Recently, Richarlison returned to competitive action for the club’s U-21 side, starting in an EFL Trophy match against Cheltenham Town.
