Overview
On October 8, 2026, a car accident occurred near the settlement of Budanje in the Ajdovščina municipality. A 20-year-old driver traveling from Vipava toward Ajdovščina drove too close to the right edge of the road after a bend, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway, travel along a grassy embankment, enter a ditch, and collide head-on with a tree before overturning.
Five young women sustained serious injuries. One 19-year-old passenger was airlifted by a Slovenian Armed Forces helicopter to the University Medical Centre Ljubljana, while the driver and three other passengers were transported to the hospital in Šempeter pri Gorici.
Police are investigating the possibility of a criminal offense due to negligence. The driver has been ordered to undergo a professional medical examination, and the incident has been reported to the state prosecutor and the investigating judge of the Nova Gorica District Court.
